FG reportedly preparing to reopen schools in September

The federal government and stakeholders in the education sector have reportedly agreed to reopen schools in September, a senior official at the federal ministry of education has claimed. The official who does not want to be named said the decision to reopen schools will be taken after learning institutions have studied the safety measures put in place to control the spread of COVlD-l9, The Sun reported
Meanwhile, the ministry of education in a statement on Friday, July 17, said it told schools to study the recently issued guidelines towards the safe reopening of schools

Ben Bem Goong, the spokesperson for the ministry disclosed that school owners are required to study the guidelines before July 29 and send feedback to the ministry. He said after the feedbacks are sent, there would be consultations with relevant stakeholders on July 30 to decide on a specific date for reopening of schools or otherwise. In another report, the House of Representatives has urged the federal government to rescind its decision on the cancellation of the 2020 West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic. recalls that minister of education, Adamu Adamu, on Wednesday, July 6, announced that schools under the control of the federal government would not be reopened for the forthcoming WAEC exams. Top presidential aide Tolu Ogunlesi, who made this known via a thread of tweets on his Twitter account, also said the education minister attributed the decision to the spike in Covid-19 cases nationwide.
